Hosted PBX: Don't go with the cheapest

Hosted PBX phone systems are in a segment within VoIP technology that is specialized and shouldn't be confused with other types of Voice Over IP (VoIP) phone technology. Hosted PBX phone systems are specifically tailored for small and medium business or enterprise. They are designed first and foremost to act as a PBX phone system for your business so that you do not have to go out and pay thousands for a PBX server that will require maintenance and upgrades and eventually be obsolete.

Replacing your old fashion PBX or Key telephone systems means your going to expect a lot from the company providing you with your new hosted VoIP phone system. Not only will they be providing you inexpensive local and long distance dialtone, they will also be managing & providing your entire business phone systems. This is very different than what a company like Vonage, Sunrocket, Skype, or Lingo offer. Those companies are caught up in the battle to offer the cheapest long distance calling rates. They are not developing PBX style phone systems for the insanely fast paced business world.

When shopping hosted PBX phone systems, you must get rid of the Vonage style mentality of VoIP. While you will save money and streamline communications by using the right hosted PBX provider, you will suffer communication losses by using the wrong one! Make sure you test drive the phone system and talk to existing customers. A good rule of thumb is to avoid the lowest priced competitor entirely as bottom of market prices are a good indicator of shaky networks and weak, or worse, outsourced customer support. Do your homework, stay away from those focused only on cost cutting, and your business will be rewarded with the most user friendly phone system it's ever seen.
